Welcome to Sankofa's AFRICAN SLAVE GENEALOGY Site

The African Slave Trade was a disastorous event that shattered the familial continuity Africans once knew. First we were cut off from our past by chains, then by distance, then by shame, and now by time. Today, there is a rapidly growing interest in African Genealogy all over the African Diaspora. Genealogical research can be challenging, especially for those who are decendants of African slaves. The challenges I face in the search for my ancestors, as well as the struggles of others, has inspired me to create this site.

PLANTATION DATABASE ThePlantation Database Project: organizes slave-era data by plantation so that the researcher can make connections using bits and pieces of their own vague slave-era history.
SLAVE TRADE DATABASE The goal of this section is to help you track the movement of your ancestors through the slave trade...Transatlantic, international, and within the U.S.
SANKOFA'S TREASURE TROVE Family Bible records, Census Transcriptions, Obituaries, Wills, Estate Records and more: a growing collection of old genealogical records that have aided my research or have not helped me, but may be useful to others. I have also included contributions from fellow genealogists and links to other databases.
